Green Team NewsBattery and CFL Light Bulb RecyclingThere has not been any recent change in recycling batteries. The batteries that we use for toys, flashlights, etc., still are not being accepted for recycling or reuse (unless you live in the state of California). As a reminder, the following businesses will take rechargeable batteries (NiCd and NiMH) and CFL light bulbs for recycling. Check with them also about recycling “button” batteries. When you have to have your watch battery changed, make sure that your jeweler recycles them and does not just throw them in the trash.
“Old” Toys and ClothingNow that Christmas has passed and our kids have received new toys and gifts, you may discover that there are toys that are being ignored or clothes that no longer fit. There are two agencies in our area that collect gently used items for re-sale at affordable prices for those in need: Goodwill Industries and Washington City Mission. The City Mission also uses some of their donations for the homeless residents at their facility as well as Avis Arbor for women and children. You can also save these items to be sold at Trinity’s UMW Rummage Sale. The proceeds from the rummage sale are used to fulfill their Mission budget.

Start Saving Your Disks (CD’s, DVD’s, etc.)Later this Spring, the Green Team will be collecting disks for recycling. After collection, they will be sold to a company that recycles the disks. Proceeds will be used for Missions.
